Salomé “Sal” Castro is a Mexican-American multidisciplinary artist, designer, and creative director known for her vibrant contemporary portraits and bold use of color. Inspired by fashion, Mexican culture, and the beauty and strength of la mujer Latina, her work combines photography, digital painting, collage, illustration, and artificial intelligence.

Growing up between the United States and Mexico shaped both her creative perspective and her connection to cultural identity. She studied fashion design at Parsons School of Design in New York City before building a twenty-year career in graphic design and creative direction for global brands.

Although her professional life centered on design, Sal continued drawing, painting, and creating portraits throughout her career. Advances in artificial intelligence eventually gave her a new way to develop the richly detailed imagery she had imagined since childhood. Using custom models trained on her own datasets, she creates contemporary portraits that celebrate heritage, femininity, and cultural pride while challenging familiar stereotypes.

Her work has received international recognition and has been exhibited, published, and collected around the world.

Sal lives and works in her hometown of Minneapolis. Minnesota. When she’s not creating, she enjoys spending time with her family and tending to her increasingly famous collection of colorful flower pots.
